The Thirteen Doctors by PaulHanley The Thirteen Doctors by PaulHanley
By popular request, a last-ever update of this internet-famous picture of mine (the background was originally drawn for Ten Doctors- it's getting a bit ridiculous).

Oh yeah, and in the comments section- save the Doctor numbering debates for Gallifrey Base, a'ight?  And I say this with peace and love, but your appeals to me to include your favorite obscure sort-of-Doctor which I "forgot" are USELESS.  Trust me, I remembered that one- and they didn't make the cut. ;)

Splendid Chaps, all of them. :-)

And I can't help but feel that if six had actually had THAT costume instead of the one he ended up with, he might be remembered a little more fondly.

Who the hell is the ghost looking one, some comments says he's the Valeyard. Um, i haven't seen any others since Cristopher Ecceltron or howevery spell his name is. Also, who is the watcher and another comment says the other, what does that mean?

Ghost on Left- The Valeyard- A distilation of the Doctor's evil, drawn from some point between his 12th and Final incarnation. And yes, that concept makes no sense.

Ghost behind Davison- The Watcher. A sort of projection of the doctor's future incarnation, appeared in Logopolis, the 4th doctor's last story, to warn him of his upcoming regeneration.

The Other, who isn't there, is a weird concept from the novels, and too odd to go into here

The Valeyard should have come up at some point during the 12th (10-2) and the 13th (11th) Doctor's time. I believe he was created using The Doctor's own evil thought. The closest we ever got to that was the Dream Lord.

Look up the "Trial of a Timelord" from Classic Doctor Who. Colin Baker was ok in those episodes.

What a nice 'family reunion'. I wonder... I do not recall ever seeing a female Time Lord.

Susan, Romana,  two in Arc of Infinity (I think one was Flavia, later in The Five Doctors), the Rani, the Inquisitor (Trial of a Time Lord), the two who had their faces covered in The End of Time and some in Day of the Doctor.

Thanks for the compliment- but "forgot" is a little rude, isn't it?  That implies I didn't put thought into the work.   It's just a deliberate exclusion, like the other scores of sort-of-Doctors who could've gone into the piece.  But you can see him here with many of the other Not-Exactly-Doctors: fav.me/d779q86

Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude it's just in the time of the doctor they said that 10.5 was an official incarnation.

People get that confused- he isn't.  Moffat and RTD made it clear that the regeneration the Tenth Doctor used up in "The Stolen Earth" (the actual moment when he healed himself) just counted as an expenditure of one regeneration.  It didn't create a new incarnation of the Doctor- just healed an existing one at great cost.  It's a subtle difference, but an important one.  The human-hybrid being that was created later in "Journey's End" was just a byproduct of the leftover energy.  It's no more an official incarnation than the 4th Doctor's clone in "The Invisible Enemy", the 6th Doctor's clone in "Project: Lazarus", etc etc.

Put it this way- there's a reason the official BBC portrait of the Doctors only shows Tennant once: images.radiotimes.com/namedima…  Take it up with them. ;)

Six thinks he's the center of attention! :D His blue coat definitely goes much better with the rest of the picture than his rainbow coat.

I've been looking forward to this, especially the addition of Capaldi & McGann's Time-War look. Though I think it would be best if Capaldi's doctor was in the center, similar to how Matt Smith was in the center for your 50th Anniversary piece. Just a suggestion.

Suggestion recieved (and ignored)! ;)  I did consider the composition you're describing, but it just felt like a retread.  Really, the only thing that made this version creatively interesting to me was giving it a full circle quality, with Capaldi mirroring Hartnell.  They have a lot of similarities, and I wanted to emphasize that.

So many Doctors, all of them brilliant in some way, at least. (Even Tennant, who I was never really keen on) Especially Matt Smith. (In my opinion)

There are fifteen if you count the watcher and the valeyard, sixteen if you count the other, and seventeen if you count the dream lord.

Pardon my ignorance, but who are the two ghostly figures? Also, interesting creative choices to line the Doctors up in reverse order and to include some of the less iconic outfits, such as Seven, Six, and Four.
