The Infinite Doctor by PaulHanley The Infinite Doctor by PaulHanley
"I've had many faces, many lives.  I don't admit to all of them."

Quite a few (but not all) of the faces the Doctor's worn over the years.  As always, your personal canonicity may vary.

But let's face it- isn't this more fun than just 12 or 13? ;)

UPDATE: By popular demand, here's a handy key that should clear up most questions:

Something always bothered me about the Morbius Doctors. I very much doubt that they are previous incarnations of either the Doctor or Morbius. The Doctor would have known he couldn't beat Morbius without cheating, so Who were the images of? My two going theories are that they are Incarnations of the Doctor's Friend The Corsair, or of Professor Chronotis. Two renegade Time Lords the Doctor admired. One could infer that the two Time Lords were Proto-Doctors. Like how The Shadow is to Batman.  The Doctor tricked Morbius and used images of someone very similar to himself.

I DEFINITELY don't buy that they're Morbius, that's for sure.  A guy who takes himself that seriously would never wear a top hat. ;)

As far as the Doctor's concerned, I like not knowing- it's a mystery better left unsolved.  Going by other things Neil Gaiman's written about the Corsair, it's probably not him/her.  Chronotis is a fun idea though.  But the idea that it was a lie definitely fits, and I wonder why more fans haven't gone with that, since the general proposal that it's Morbius is preposterous when you watch how the actual scene plays out.  But I like the idea of pre-Hartnell incarnations maybe or maybe not existing.  There's plenty of hints for it in the series- pretty much all of Season 25 and 26, plus the Third Doctor's slip about being thousands (plural!) of years old.  Like "the Caretaker", I think the less we know about where the Doctor really came from (and where he's ultimately going) the better.  It'd be awesome and hilarious if they did some tiny callback to the Morbius Doctors at some point, just to help stir up confusion.  Moff loves to troll the fans so much I could see him going there. ;)

The Moff can be frustrating sometimes, But I'm not one of his haters. I dunno, If There were Pre-Hartnell incarnations I think they would have popped up in The Name of the Doctor. I mean all The Doctors incarnations were there. If we saw Hurt in front of the Morbius Doctors(maybe shrouded in Darkness) I'd totally believe it, but alas, I cannot. I may also be secretly trying to get you to do a Thirteen Alternate Doctors pic, but you didn't read that.........The Morbius Doctors could very well be the Doctor, but not THE Doctor. I'm thinking the Valeyards maybe? Maybe each Incarnation of the Doctor has an opposite Valeyard? Kinda like one of the original Ideas about who the Master was. I read somewhere That the Master was originally supposed to be The Evil Side of the Doctor and they were the same entity. The Valeyard could be the same. The Celestial Toymaker was once thought to be a Time Lord, could the Toymaker have been an Incarnation of the Valeyard? Perhaps they were even the Doctors from Pete's World? I don't like not knowing. :P Pertwee did indeed say that, but remember, The Doctor Lies. I always assumed That because of the events of Season 6b, The Doctor may not have remembered how old he was. I believed the Time Lords erased his memory from the events of 6b, the Doctor believed himself to be one age, but felt older. That's because he was. Six discovered 6b during The Two Doctors and may not have become aware of his actual age until being told or finding out during the Time War. That would explain the smoother consistency of NuWHO's age protocols.  Sorry I'm writing so much, I know you're very busy, but I do get excited about some subjects.

I think it's just good to always remember that the show is called "Doctor Who".  If we knew too much, it'd eventually be "Doctor... Oh". ;)

Thanks, and I am- even did a pair of covers for Titan's Doctor Who series once!  Though it's still just kind of a part-time gig right now. :)

Maybe you could do a bigger one with the corrections people have suggested or that you have found out, or that have happened since you did your artwork.  I'd also like to see them all fully on the page too.

Damn, this is impressive.  And I thought I knew a lot about the Doctor Who series.   But then there are a number of bits I tend to leave out because they don't fit or I think they are really off the scale.  Also there are books and quite a few of the Audio adventures I have no first hand knowlege of... but still, wow.

I'd keep my eye on The Valeyard... he's a real crafty one.

And on a side note: "You think I am alone? Trust me... there's not just my incarnations on this timeline, sunshine. Pray I don't call or help from alternate times!"

Okay, from my own personal knowledge:
First-Twelfth Doctors (including the War Doctor)
Alternate First Doctor ("The Five Doctors", played by Richard Hurndall)
The Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor ("Journey's End")
The Doctor-Donna ("Journey's End")
The Valeyard ("Trial of a Time Lord")
The Dream Lord ("Amy's Choice")
Ninth-Thirteenth Doctors ("The Curse of Fatal Death")
Ninth Doctor ("Scream of the Shalka")
Dr. Who (Peter Cushing films)

I think those are all of the ones I can name.

Interesting and probably more correct than you know.  The "First Question" was "Doctor Who?".   With this revelation, the answer becomes obvious.  There is only on Time Lord would achieved Infinite Regeneration ability.

I thought the one off to the far right was Richard Griffiths -until I noticed him in the upper left corner. Upon some investigation, I discovered it was your Robbie Coltrane Doctor! Very clever, hiding the obscure ones off-screen.

Does anyone else think we should have some more multi-Doctor stories? It would be interesting to bring some of the classic actors in for an episode or two.

I think Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston would be the most likely candidates in this case. David Tennant's already come back for a crossover, and Matt Smith's only just left.

I like how Lenny Henry's smiling and looking at the Doctor he regenerated from. Also, have you noticed how eerily similar that regeneration was to what actually happened on the show?

Yep.  It's disappointing that with all the possibilities out there, even the non-canonical Doctors are almost all white males. You'd think people would have bigger imaginations than that.
