Superstoked page 4 by PaulHanley Superstoked page 4 by PaulHanley
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my new regular webcomic... SUPERSTOKED!

I recommend using "full view" mode.

SKIP TO ANY PAGE HERE: [link]

This is a comic I started drawing a year ago (I won't even tell ya how long ago I wrote the script for it), and a chunk of it's already "in the can". I'll start with three pages today. After that, the plan is one a week every Monday. That's the plan anyway.

This series is easily the most personal and beloved thing I've ever uploaded to DA, so if you dig it, please comment, fave it, feature it, spread the word, etc. Thanks. :)

Superstoked is 2010, Paul Hanley. And that's a bona-fide registered copyright, folks. Just sayin'.

Thanks! :D The Freeze is actually more of a supporting character (the main cast/ plotline pops up in next Monday's installment),so it'll be a little while before he pops up again. But don't worry- he'll be back to cause more inconvenience and property damage in his misguided attempts at petty crimefighting.

I guess if you've got Ice powers its a good idea to have a partner with fire powers eh?
Looking forward to the next one!

Thanks! And yeah, I've never really understood Iceman-type powers being harnessed for good. They look neat-o, but the practical applications are few- unless you're okay with killing the bad guys, b/c that's probably what's gonna happen if ya encase them in ice! Now if you were a supervillain who wanted to wreck infrastructure and commit mass murder... it's a GREAT power. :D

I know that in Spiderman they made a reference to his webs not lasting more than a cool of hours, but you're right what about Icemans slide? If there really were superheroes in America they'd spend every other week in court :S

I have to say man, you've got me hooked already. Always a good sign from a comic, keep it up :D

Thanks! I'm definitely enthused by today's response. Though it's only a fraction of the attention my DW-related stuff gets, most of the pages are already over 100 views, with a healthy handful of comments and faves. I was ready to have to completely build this up from scratch, but it looks like some of my watchers are already onboard. I'm very grateful for that. :)

And yeah, real life superheroes would be mired in endless litigation. I think all that government registration stuff as seen in Marvel's Civil War would be a foregone conclusion- and even then they'd be getting hate left and right. It'd be a real no-win scenario.

Well it's to be expected that DW is gonna get more attention.
But I'm glad you're getting some positive feedback :D

Not necessarilly all of them (though maybe- read on and see ;)). But obviously the Freeze gets a big fat FAIL for people skills (and probably general common sense).

Hahaha, awesome. This reminds me of the Cracked article which details all the problems a real-life Spider-Man would bring to the police for of NYC. Great comic; keep it coming!

This is very cool, I love things that deal with Superheroes not looking so super in the eyes of everyone else.

Thanks! Yeah, that's definitely a big theme of the series. I always wondered what the heck happened to Iceman's ice slides or Spidey's webs after they'd had their use. Thouse guys create a lot of dangerous pollution.

But get this- superheroes aren't the main characters of the series. I know- it's a little misleading, since I started off with this scene. So who ARE the lead characters? Find out in the next installment... ;)

I don't know if it's a project I'll ever get around to, much as I'd like. But I'd probably base him/ her on one of those cool casting possibilites that'll never happen: David Bowie; Tilda Swinton; Ewan Bremner; Danny John-Jules, etc. As for dress style- probably something a touch eccentric but nothing too unusual- as is the norm for the modern Doctors. Maybe something with a vest? Vests are pretty out now, so it'd be just unusual enough. "I wear a vest not. Vests are cool." Though in the case of Danny John-Jules, I think a late 40s/ early 50s style suit w/ hat would look pretty sharp. And maybe with no tie, so it looks relaxed. We haven't had a Doctor that makes a habit of sunglasses or tinted shades- like maybe a Jarvis Cocker kind of look. There's a thought- a slightly dour, deadpan humor kinda Doctor who wears a lot of black and some Jarvis-style shades. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, perhaps?

Very cool I would watch him :) I tould create my own doctor from clothing I have and maybe have myself or an actor as the face of my doctor.
